ABOUT UNIFIED SCIENCES

We’ve built an AI engine for autonomous scientific discovery. We don't just help scientists search papers faster. We generate hypotheses, design experiments, and produce results — across pharma, materials science, energy, and climate, without retraining per domain. Three ongoing collabs with R&D labs. A benchmark result that matched Meta with zero training data. A CIFAR AI Chair as co-founder. A product that's live. Now we need someone to turn early traction into a real customer pipeline.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

  • GTM strategy — Which verticals first? Pharma (biggest budgets, longest sales cycles) or materials science (faster adoption, smaller checks)? You'll make the call and own the outcome.
  • Customer pipeline — We have 3 ongoing collabs. You'll convert these into paid pilots ($100K-300K ACV) and build a pipeline of 20-30 qualified prospects. Target: mid-size R&D teams at $500M-5B companies and funded academic labs.
  • Enterprise sales process — Build the pilot → paid → expand playbook from scratch. Figure out procurement cycles, budget owners, champion mapping, and pricing. There's no existing sales motion — you create it.
  • Fundraise support — Prepare investor materials, manage the data room, help with investor outreach and follow-ups. You'll work alongside the CEO during the close process.
  • Market intelligence — Track what the competitors are doing. Understand where customers are spending their R&D budgets today and what makes them switch. Feed this back into the product.
  • Partnerships & conferences — NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, BIO, ACS — figure out where our customers and investors overlap and be there. Academic partnerships (beyond Mila) that generate both credibility and data.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • You've sold technical products to R&D or science-adjacent teams before. You understand what it takes to sell to a VP of R&D at a pharma company versus a PI at a research lab — and why those are completely different motions.
  • You can open doors. Whether through conferences, cold outreach, warm intros, or LinkedIn — you know how to get the first meeting.
  • You're comfortable being the only commercial person at a deeply technical company. You can hold your own in a room of PhDs without being one.
  • You can write. Investor decks, customer proposals, partnership pitches, email sequences — all you. We don't have a marketing team.
  • You've been at an early-stage startup before (Series A or earlier). You know that "business development" at a pre-seed company means doing whatever needs doing.
  • Biotech/pharma/materials science industry connections are a strong plus. So is experience with the Canadian innovation ecosystem (IRAP, SR&ED, BDC, etc.).

WHAT THIS ISN'T

  • This isn't enterprise sales at scale. There's no SDR team, no Salesforce instance, no marketing generating inbound leads. You build the machine from zero.
  • This isn't a strategy role where you make decks and other people execute. You send the emails, take the calls, fly to the conferences.
  • This isn't a role where you wait for product-market fit to be proven. You help prove it.

COMPENSATION

  • Meaningful founding equity (vesting)
  • Competitive base salary (Direct line to CEO and Chief Scientist)
  • Commission/bonus on closed pilots (structure TBD together)
